Creating Characters

Acting Skills & Performance Techniques

University of Wales, Lampeter
10th-16th August 2003

Run by South Wales based charity the Drama Association of Wales, this residential, week-long drama training holiday is especially designed for seasoned amateur actors and newcomers alike. The course will look at various approaches to creating a character based on the premise that acting should be kept simple. It will examine how to add that bit of spice to your next role; how to be imaginative without having to think too hard; and how to bring subtle changes to your characterisation without too much effort.

Areas that will be investigated on this course include:

  • Stage presence + control
  • Devised performances as an alternative to script
  • Character in relation to textual interpretation
  • Verbal and non-verbal dialogues
  • Listening, thinking + responding
  • Status

DAW Summer Schools are designed to answer the needs of all. Experience is not necessary, just bring your enthusiasm, an open mind and be prepared to learn and enjoy!

This course is not restricted to those living in Wales; we receive applications to attend Summer School from all over Europe.

Fully inclusive course fee from JUST £299 covers:

  • ALL TUITION
  • COURSE NOTES
  • ALL MEALS
  • SINGLE ROOM ACCOMMODATION
