Summer Acting School with DAW
Wales based charity, the Drama Association of Wales (DAW), has announced
details of its Summer Training School: aweek-long residential training
holiday designed for the amateur theatre enthusiast.
This year DAW is offering a choice of two courses:
One-Actmanship
Tutored by Phil Clark
The One Act play is to the full length drama what a short story is
to a novel. Both disciplines demand a secure structure and a strong
command of the craft. This course will explore the structure of the
one act play and expose how plot, structure and characterisation along
with a demand for satisfying drama are essential ingredients for the
creation of a short, complete but beautifully theatrical experience.
This will be a very practical course examining a number of texts
and work towards a presentation of the material by the end of the
week. There will be the opportunity for participants to explore the
texts as both actors and directors.
Playing Comedy
Tutored by Chris Morgan
We all enjoy comedy in theatre and it's sometimes mistakenly seen
as an easy option. But it can be so difficult to get right. Working
in detail with extracts from a selection of comedy scripts, you will
analyse and explore a range of comedy styles and writers of comic
theatre. The course will give you the opportunity to develop your
approach to comedy and improve your comic skills through this week-long
practical rehearsal process.
Accommodation is in single rooms with an en-suite option available.
The courses are suitable for all levels of skill and experience - just
bring your enthusiasm, an open mind and be prepared to learn and enjoy.
The Drama Association of Wales Theatre Summer School offers a safe and
nurturing environment in which to express your creativity through theatre.
The course runs at the University of Wales, Lampeter, from 12th to
18th August.
Prces start at £350, including tuition, accommodation and all
meals
