BTG Edfringe CoverageDateline: 8th August, 2004Today, Sunday 8th August, the Edinburgh Fringe starts officially. Last week saw previews of a number of shows (it's now even being called Week 0 in the Fringe programme!), but today's the day when it all gets going. We already have some reviews from preview week online (because they're not all previews! Some shows can only be fitted in outside of the main three weeks) and, as the days pass, there will be more and more. The BTG is on its way to Edinburgh. Rachel, of course, is already there, as she lives in the city, and Philip is too, having spent a week golfing in the vicinity (he's kept his actual location a deep, dark secret!). David arrives this weekend too, and Peter will be there on Monday for the day, then is back again on Friday for a week. Jackie and Catherine will soon be arriving, too, so there'll be six of us covering a huge range of shows from the Fringe and the International Festival, throughout the three weeks. As well as reviews, there'll be interviews and all kinds of general news and information. You can keep in touch with what's happening by going to our Fringe 2004 Index page. There'll be a link to it from the front page which will announce whenever there's been an update. Response to emails will be a little patchy, for, although most of us will have access to our email during our stay in Edinburgh, there will be little time to deal with it. Please forgive us: we'll respond when we can! A typical reviewer's day begins in the morning when we get the previous day's reviews written and sent off, and then it's off to show after show from about 11.00 in the morning to around midnight (or even later for those young enough to handle it!). On average each reviewer sees five to six shows a day, so an awful of of time is spent running between venues. It would be great if we could arrange to be in one venue, or even a group of neighbouring venues, all day, but that's not always possible. Well, let's be honest: it's usually impossible, because the shows we want to see will either be on at the same time or overlap, or else we'll have five minutes to get from one venue to another, and even if they are only half a mile apart, just one delay can throw out the entire day's schedule. There will not be a full weekly update or an edition of the Newsletter next week (15th) as I'll be in Edinburgh, but there will be on 22nd and as usual thereafter. Articles Indices:
