Herefordshire, Shropshire and StaffordshireHerefordshire Hereford, the county town, has its Courtyard Arts Centre which has a mixed programme of mid-scale touring and in-house productions. Its Main House seats 400 and the Studio 140. The only other theatre in the county is in Ledbury. The Market Theatre, which seats 128, is an amateur venue which also takes small-scale professional tours. Shropshire Lke Herefordshire, Shropshire is a mainly rural county. The county town in Shrewsbury, which has the Music Hall, a receiving house which takes national tours. It seats 384 people. Bridgnorth has two venues: the Theatre in the Steps is an amateur 122-seater which is available for hire and the Leisure Centre, which has a 650-seater auditorium is willing to co-produce. Whitchurch's Civic Centre (400 seats) presents mainly one-night stands, children's theatre, panto and touring companies. Staffordshire Staffordshire is (or, perhaps, was might be better) much more the industrial Midlands that everyone imagines. As a result, there is more theatre activity in the county than in Herefordshire or Shropshire. There are five actual theatres in the county, including one belonging to a university. The university theatre is the University of Keele's Westminster Theatre, which has two auditoria, the Main House seats 387 and the Lindsay Studio 200. Its programme is mainly music, but also features small-scale drama. The county town Stafford has its Gatehouse Theatre which presents a wide range of shows in the 564-seater theatre and the 120 seat Malcolm Edwards Theatre Studio. In Telford the Oakengate Theatre (650 seats) presents a mixture of amateur and professional shows and the Bloxwich Library Theatre in Walsall - a mere thirty seats - accepts small-scale tours. The best known of the Staffordshire Theatres is Newcastle-under-Lyme's New Victoria Theatre, a rep. It has a 597-seater in-the-round auditorium and a studio, the Stephen Joseph, which seats 160. The Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton-on-Trent (230 seats) takes small- to mid-scale tours and also features amateur work, whilst Tamworth's Arts Centre features a similar programme but only has 96 seats. By way of contrast, Telford's International Centre is an arena-style venue with a capacity of 3700 and it can take the largest scale shows. Elsewhere in the county, Cannock has its Prince of Wales Centre, which is a community venue seating 439 and presenting a full range of entertainment, incuding drama and panto; Lichfield has its Civic Hall (394), which is available for hire; and Walsall has two venues: the Bloxwich Leisure Centre (400) which does not have an established Arts policy but is interested in theatre events, and the Town Hall which has a mixed programme in its two auditoria, the Town Hall itself which seats 1000 and the Lily Hall (100).
