A Brief History of the BTG (Part III) - The FutureDateline: 17th November, 2005What does the future hold for the BTG? Who can say? All we know is what we would like to happen. First and foremost, that is to continue to provide as complete a service as we can to our readers, who are a very mixed bunch: we have theatre professionals (around 40% of the readership, so all indications suggest), amateurs, journalists and enthusiastic theatregoers. They come from all around the world. About a third of all readers come from outside the UK, from the US to Singapore, from Scandanavia to New Zealand, a testament to the popularity of British Theatre. We want to expand our review coverage. There are parts of the country where we have no reviewers and other parts where we could do with some assistance. If you are interested - particularly if you can cover the West of England, Cambridge, Oxford, Northern Ireland, Glasgow, the rest of Scotland outside Glasgow and Edinburgh, Teesside, Cumbria and Lancashire, North Wales - please get in touch. You must be a good writer and have an extensive knowledge and experience of theatre, either as a practitioner or theatregoer (or both, of course!). Send me a sample review and a few personal details and we'll take it form there. We'd like to expand our coverage of amateur news. We aren't able to use reviews of amateur productions (unless they are of something extra-special) because they are not usually of any real interest to anyone outside of the group's area, but news is a different matter. Societies are always interested in what other groups are doing and we want to make out coverage of theatre as wide-ranging and inclusive as possible. We already have some excellent interviews - we were the first website Nicholas Hytner spoke to - with actors, directors, writers and administrators, and we have more to come. Indeed, coming soon are an up-and-coming actress, a writer we think is going to be very big shortly, and some panto stars. And we have a few others in the pipeline. Watch this space! << History
