Theatre Companies in the Yorkshire and Humberside Arts Region

There are around 70 non-building based theatre companies in the YHA region - too many to list here, so I have been forced to make a selection to show the variety of the work being produced.

Action Space Mobile
Based in Barnsely. Community theatre for all ages, especially those with special needs. Its work is visual/unscripted.

Actors of Dionysus
(York) The company's aim is to tour "fresh, gripping and immediately accessible productions of classical Greek drama throughout the UK and Ireland."

Badapple Theatre Company
(Cottingham, Humberside) Focuses on new work: "top quality, accessible drama."

Blaize
(Ilkley) Community, cabaret and street theatre. Working also through workshops and residencies, the company aims to "present and encourage small, self-made entertainments."

Chol Theatre
(Batley) Specialises in environmental arts work in South Asian communities. Its work is often multi-racial, multi-lingual and devised.

Circus Alchemy
Based in Rotherham, this is a community, TIE and children's entertainment company. It devises its shows, which are aimed at children and families.

Compass Theatre Company
A Sheffield company, CTC provides professional high quality touring theatre. It is especially interested in ensemble work, and in presenting the classics in a clear and accessible way. Also interested in new work.

Dead Earnest Theatre
Another Sheffield company, especially interested in "provocative theatre from the texts, styles and issues of contemporary Europe." Makes use of live music.

Faceless Company
(Wakefield) A community theatre company, providing walkabout characters and static street shows.

Forced Entertainment
A group of artists in Sheffield who are involved in experimental theatre, performance art and installation.

Impossible Theatre
(Holmfirth) A company producing live and cross-artform events which are visual and often nonscripted. Features participation, live music, dance and mime.

Interplay TC
(Leeds) Interplay sets out to "become an international centre of excellence in theatre by and for young people with learning disabilities."

IOU Theatre
(Halifax) Vusual theatre with specially composed music, aimed at young adult audiences. Often site-specific, or using unusual locations as well as theatre venues.
