Theatre in Eastern England: Theatre Companies

Classworks Theatre
(Cambridge) A community and Theatre in Education company which focuses on young people. It makes use of live music, movement and multimedia, and is interested in new and company devised work.

Eastern Angles Theatre Company
(Based in the Sir John Mills Theatre, Ipswich) Interested in new and original work, often with a regional flavour. A feature of the company is its tours through rural areas.

Frantic Theatre Company
(Bushey, Herts) Presents one new play a year, which it tours around the UK. The company uses live music and dance, and has a special interest in theatre for the elderly.

The Grand Theatre of Lemmings
(Manningtree, Essex) Presents work which is "exhilarating, exciting, unusual and, above all, funny," using the skills of cabaret and theatre.

Heir of Insanity
(Stowmarket, Suffolk) Physical theatre and circus.

Hoipolloi Theatre
(Cambridge) Use mime and physical theatre (and offer workshops). Comic theatre using company-devised and new work.

Indian People's Theatre Association
(Upminster, Essex) Most of the company's plays are in Bengali. Their aim is the "creation of an art protraying the lives, struggles and dreams of its people and their strivings for peace, better living conditions, better lives and liberation from all forms of injustice."

Jill Freud and Co.
Producers of "good plays for family entertainment," often classics. National tours and summer seasons.

Lynx TIE
(Fakenham, Norfolk) Produces issues-based theatre in education.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen
(Manningtree, Essex) Drama and TIE. Likes new writing and new adaptations.

Menagerie
(Brampton, Cambs) New writing production company. Activities include business training, regional small scale touring, actor training and weekly readings of new plays by local and national playwrights.

Peregrine Theatre
(Burwell, Cambs) provocative, evocative, high-quality theatre and has built a sound reputation in long range, small - to medium-scale touring (around 150 to 500 seats)as well as in education and training work.

Pin Point Productions
(Southend-on-Sea, Essex) Specialise in new intrepretations of British works.

Snap Theatre Company
(Bishop's Stortford, Herts) A company which is TIE and education based. Involved in new writing, youth projects and residencies.

Tiebreak Touring Theatre
(Norwich, Norfolk) Young People's Theatre (YPT) specialists: original productions for children and young people.

Trestle Theatre Company
(St Albans, Herts) Uses masks, puppets, text and music. Has a national reputation for originality.

Triangle Productions
(Colchester, Essex) Middle of the road drama for adults and children.
