for Education and Skills, for it also has responsility for the development

Money given by central government to
local authorities where one or more major industries have closed down, causing
large-scale unemployment. The aim is to regenerate the area through schemes
involving education, training, the environment, the arts etc. |
| Specialist Schools |

A DfE initiative to encourage schools
to specialise in a particular area. Additional money is provided for (a) a
one-off capital project, and (b) three years general funding. The areas of
specialism are the arts, the performing arts, technology, modern foreign
