So Who Is the Greatest?Dateline: 31st October, 2004The readers of Empire, a British magzine aimed at film fans, have voted Robert De Niro as the greatest actor over fifty (see our news story for full details). As you would expect - for, in spite of all the efforts to build up the British (and European) industry, film is very much a US-centric art form - British actors are very much in the minority, and those who do feature are the ones who appear in the blockbuster movies. And the bigger the blockbuster (and the more of them), the highher up the list they feature. As a result the top two Brits are Hopkins and Connery. With all due respect to both, I have to say that neither would appear at the top of my list. And that set me wondering: if there was a poll of theatregoers, who would come out top there? So here's your chance: vote in the BTG's Top Actors Over 50 Poll!
