Gagarin Way
A site devoted to Gregory Burke's first play, a smash hit at the Edinburgh
Fringe last year and now running successfully in London, should be
exciting. Regrettably it isn't. All we have here is an advert: a brief
outline of what it's about, where it is on, when, and why. There are
a lot of (deservedly) enthusiastic press quotes but little else. Something
of a missed opportunity, I feel.
Giant
Steps
Basically an advert for a new play by Othniel Smith at London's Oval
House in November '98 and Cardiff's Chapter Art Centre in December
1998. Produced by the Made in Wales Theatre Company.
Going Down
A new comedy by Ian Smith, produced by the Breakthrough Theatre Group,
an amateur company in Brighton. Some info about the play, the cast,
one picture (more are promised) and sounds from the show.
Greek
Review by Jeremy Kingston of the production of this Steven Berkoff
play by Confederate Theatre at the Riverside (January 2001).
The Graduate
A fairly comprehensive site, giving the history of the play (from
novel to film to play), listings of the cast and creative teams (with
some bios: the three leads, the director, designer and lighting designer),
reviews and - inevitably! - booking.
Guards! Guards!
Basically an ad for a touring version of Terry Pratchett's Guards!
Guards!, adapted by Geoffrey Cash from one of the Discworld novels
and starring Paul Darrow. Three pages: the home page, tour dates,
and a biography of Darrow.
The Heiress
The 2000 RNT touring production with Eve Best and Alan Howard. About
the play, and pictures.
House/Garden
An article from the "Daily Telelgraph" about the complexities of staging
Alan Ayckbourn's latest play at the RNT.
Howard
Katz (Patrick Marber)
A slashing review of the third of Marber's trilogy ("Dealer's Choice"
and "Closer") by Nicholas de Jongh in the "Evening Standard"
Drama
out of a Crisis (Howard Katz)
A much more sympathetic review from John Peter in the "Sunday Times".
Humble Boy
The official site for Charlotte Jones' play. Pages on the cast, the
creative team, reviews and performance information.
Hurly
Burly
The Peter Hall Company's 1997 production of David Rabe's play: cast
list and a number of reviews.
Hush
By April De Angelis, performed at the Royal Court in 1992: a cast
list and two reviews.
The
Importance of Being Earnest
The full text of Oscar Wilde's play.
Is
Normal
Another production by TAMAR Scarborough. Details of the play for prospective
bookers.
The Invention of Love
This page is by actor Adam Baker who is appearing in the West End
production. It contains pictures and details. A rather different perspective
than most play sites offer.
Invertigo
A production which takes its inspiration from Hitchock's film Vertigo:
very complex technically. The site requires Flash and it does take
a while to load, even with a broadband connection.
Kind Hearts and
Coronets
A new production by Charles Vance, starring Robert Powell and Colin
Baker, now having a UK tour prior to a West End run. One page only:
the Tour Dates page produces a 404 error.
An
Inspector Calls
Basic info about the show, booking, questions, access and education
provision.
King Gubu
Ireland Stories is a site devoted to new Irish writing in many genres.
Of most interest to theatrelovers is King Gubu, a new translation
of Jarry's Ubu Roi, which sets it in Ireland. It's hilarious!
Be aware, however, that it is the full play and therefore takes a
long time to download, although a .pdf version is available.
The Film of Little
Voice
Since there is nothing on the Web about Jim Cartwight's plays, I decided
to list this one. It's the official Website for the succesful film
starring Brenda Blethyn, Michael Caine and Jane Horrocks. Cast, synopsis,
the director, music, reviews.
Long
Day's Journey into Night
A picture, cast list and reviews of the NT's production of Eugene
O'Neill's play.
Lord of
the Flies
Nigel Williams' stage adaptation of William Golding's novel, originally
produced by the RSC. Although it contains biographies of Golding and
Williams, this site is clearly aimed at amateur companies (possibly
mainly schools) who would be interested in doing the play. Full licensing
details are available, even down to an online application form. Now
that's a first!
Luther
(John Osborne)
A site devoted to the RNT's 2001 production, directed by Peter Gill
and featuring Rufus Sewell, Richard Griffiths, Geoffrey Hutchings
and Maxine Peake. There's a synopsis, seven reviews, lots of pictures,
and a look at previous productions of the play.
Miss
Julie
(Strindberg) Devoted to a production by Armstrong Arts. There are
production credits on the first page and, on the "Info" page, a synopsis,
details of the production's approach, and the cast. There is no mention
about where it is being performed.
Mutants
A play written and directed by Ivor Benjamin for the Edinburgh Fringe
1989. There's a synopsis, extracts, and the cast list.
Naked
Truth
A play about sex, morality and the Internet, performed by Tall Stories
Theatre Company. There's information about performances in April 2000,
photographs, and even a sample scene.
Of Bright
and Dark
A new play about Byron by Christopher Lawrence: a page on the pubisher's
site.
One Flew
Over the Cuckoo's Nest
1999 touring production with Mike McShane, Isla Blair and Danny Webb.
About the play, photos, reviews and the education programme.
On Line and Paranoid in
the Sentimental City
A play by Chris Lee, presented at the Finborough in 2000. Press releases
(in .txt and .doc files), two press photos, and production credits.
You don't really learn all that much about the play from this site.
Ophelia
A play by Helena Thompson with live music by Adem Ilkan. The site
is a Flash movie, culminating in details of performances during February
2002. It's a good Flash movie, but it does take a long time to load:
you need lots of patience if you're visiting over a dial-up connection
when the Net is busy. We are talking minutes here!
Our
Late Night
American actor/playwright Wallace Shawn's play which was produced
at the New Ambassadors in 1999. This is a review from the Daily Telegraph.
C20th Peter Pan
This is an online exhibition about J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan,
100 years old this year. The site is in two parts: a history of Peter
Pan and, for the collector, a catalogue of memorabilia, for, in spite
of the intrinsic interest of the history, this is a selling
exhibition.
Playwrights & Their Plays
(doollee.com)
A information-packed site: 4,722 playwrights and their plays individually
listed, 18,433 plays with links to their playwrights, numbers of male/female
parts in each play.
The
Power of Two
A play by Ivor Benjamin, charting the intertwined lives of Lady Byron,
Countess Lovelace, and Charles Babbage. Extracts, notes, the cast,
