The Internet Theatre Bookshop
Based in the UK but it does have a US section. It's full catalogue
- and it's a big one! - is here, covering plays, musicals, biographies,
study and theory, stagecraft and cinema and TV. There is a secure
server for ordering online.
Ben Jonson
A biography, a listing of his plays, and a bibliography.
Ben
Jonson
From TheatreHistory.com. A biography from 1934
Ben Jonson (17th Century Literature)
An academic site, but one which will have an appeal to the more general theatre-lover. There's a pretty thorough (as Websites go) biography, quotations, full texts and excerpts from many of his works, and a whole range of links to academic essays on the Web.
Kander and Ebb
Although Kander and Ebb are American, their musicals are regularly presented in the UK, so it makes sense to include a page devoted to them - or at least it would if the page had anything to say. Unfortunately this one desn't! It's one page from which you can search a commercial company for recordings, sign up for a mailing list, sign a guestbook and look at one picture.
Sarah Kane (1971-1999)
My own survey of Kane's work and the reactions to it, written at the time of her death.
Sarah
Kane - Writer
A short but touching piece about Kane from Peter Wynne-Willson, who
directed the workshop of her play Blasted.
Sarah Kane
Some details of her plays, links to newspaper articles about her,
a brief biography, links to Amazon for those wanting to buy her plays,
and a poll about the best and worst of her work. I have to say that
the latter seems very out of place to me!
Tom Kelly
Tom Kelly is a NE-based playwright, short story writer and poet. The
site contains a number of examples of his poetry, together with reviews
of his plays. It is still (September 2004) under construction so a
number of pages are not yet online.
Bernard Kops
Details of his life and work, including all his stage and radio plays, films and poetry. There is special emphasis on Playing Sinatra, The Dreams of Anne Frank and Ezra. There's also coverage of his forthcoming (Spring '99) US speaking tour and his work with gypsy teenagers.
Sarah Kane (In Yer Face)
An article on Kane from the site devoted to the "In Yer Face Theatre" book , dealing with her character and suicide. Useful and interesting.
Sarah Kane directed by James Macdonald
An "Evening Standard" review of the revival of Sarah Kane's Blasted,
directed by James Macdonald, which includes a look at Macdonald's
work in general and on Kane in particular.
Sarah Kane - "Blasted" review
See Michael Billington eat his words!
Sarah Kane - The Savage Mark of Kane
A general look back at critical responses to Kane and her work, from Brian Logan in the "Independent".
Sarah Kane: Crave & 4:48 Psychosis
Review by Patrick Marmion in the "Evening Standard" of the Royal Court revivals.
Thomas Kyd
An introduction and list of his (2!) plays.
Thomas
Kyd
From TheatreHistory.com. A biography from 1939
Bryony
Lavery
From the "Independent" (Jan. 2001). An interview referring to her
latest play, "A Wedding Story".
Mike
Leigh
From the BBC Artzone: a profile and audio clips
Limelight
Scripts
Suppliers of (at the moment) original scripts for pantomimes for amateur
companies. Musicals and straight plays will be available soon, they
say. The site gives details of what is available, some extracts, fees,
the cost of scripts and so on.
Liz
Lochhead
A short biography and a picture.
John Lyly (1554-1606)
Some quotations, his life and his works (but just those available online). The homepage has some nice background music, but there is a shortage of critical comment.
John Lyly
From TheatreHistory.com. A biography from 1911
Martin McDonagh
A page about a radio production of his first radio play, The Tale
of the Wolf and the Woodcutter.
Mary
de la Riviere Manley (1663-1749)
A brief intro to a "feminist" playwright.
Mary de
la R. Manley
Another brief intro, plus a list of some of her works.
