Shrewsbury School at the Fringe
Shrewsbury School is one of the very few schools to have won an Edinburgh Fringe First. Teacher Alex Went tells the story.
The Singing Kettle
A touring children's show which has been going, in various forms,
for many years: based in Scotland but touring throughout the UK. Aimed
at 2-8 year olds. Includes details of the show, tour dates, a "fun
page" and merchandising.
6th Sense
Theatre Company
Based in Swindon, 6th Sense works in theatre for and with young people.
The site covers its professional work, its two youth theatres and
its outreach and education work.
South East Berkshire
Gangshow
The Gangshow is a long-established tradition in British Scouting.
This site covers the SE Berkshire show in great detail with pages
on almost every aspect you can think of, including links to gangshows
around the country, a discussion forum open to all and a history of
gangshows.
Spiral Youth Theatre
The Spiral YT is part of the Charles Cryer Studio Theatre in Carshalton, Surrey. This is part of the theatre's main site and consists of one page - which was out of date at the time of visiting.
Spotlites Theatre Company Ltd.
Based at the King's Theatre, Chatham, Kent. Full details of their
training courses in acting, singing, dance and technical theatre,
and their shows.
Stage 2
A large (200 members) youth theatre in Birmingham. There's a great
anount of detail about the group, its productions, its approach and
its staff.
Stageregister.com
A register of independent stage schools for under-18s in the UK. There
are various ways of searching the register, including via a
"hotspot" map. This could be a useful resource but it is very far
from complete.
Stagework
Commissioned by Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture,
Media and Sport and produced in conjunction with the National Theatre.
Lots of educational resources, mainly but not exclusively relating
to NT productions. A very valuable educational resource.
Starshine Music
"Children's musicals and songs for schools, choirs and youth
theatre groups written by leading UK writers." Quite a range,
aimed at children from 5 to 13 years mostly, with Director's Packs,
which include phiotocopiable scripts, piano score and CD.
Still Neon Productions
A company set up to market market musicals and plays for school and amateur production. Writers can submit their own shows to them.
Sullivan Stage School Centres
(Essex) Full details of classes, holiday workshops, shows and a summmer school in 2000. There's also a newsletter and details of how the classes are structured. Not a full-time school.
Surrey County Youth Theatre
One page which gives details of productions going back to 1978 and of its current production.
TAG Theatre Company
TAG, originally part of the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre, desceibes itself as Scotland's national theatre company for young people. The programme for the next three years, as outlined here, is fascinating. There's a load of information here - and it looks good, too.
Theatre Centre
A company which commissions and presents professional theatre for young people. Those of a certain age will remember it as Brian Way's company. It performs in schools. Details of current and recent productions, about the company, and contacts.
Tiebreak Touring Theatre
A Theatre in Education company based in Norwich. The site lists its current and past productions, its future programme, and details of its funding and its Teachers' Panel.
Toksvig-Perkins
Writers of plays for children to perform. There are ciurrently four on the site, and each gives details of the plot, lots of pictures and even MP3 files of the songs. There are also details about how to order copies.
Whirlwind Theatre
Productions
Children's theatre. Formed by husband and wife team Mike Walley and
Myette Godwyn. Details of their touring shows, workshops, community
work, design company Tornado and the company members.
Wolsey Theatre In Education
The Wolsey TIE company is based at the Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich. Details of their policy, their shows, what people say about them, and their latest show, a science-based piece for Year 5 and 6.
Worthing Youth Theatre
Much more there now than when we first listed this site: pictures,
videos and text covering all their work.
YEM Theatre School
The Young Entertainers Musical Theatre School of Farnborough, Hants., aimed at ages 4-18. News, the subjects taught, shows, an archive of pictures, and how to contact them.
Young Peoples' Theatre, Newcastle
Part of Newcastle's People's Theatre, the city's leading amateur company. The sirte is still under construction to a degree, but most of it is there: how to join, its aim, a list of past productions going back to 1978, some theatre games, and details of their summer projects. A very popular group, with a twelve month waiting list for membership.
Youth Action Theatre
(Affiliated to the Teddington Theatre Club) A full range of pages:
forthcoming productions and events, details of the past few seasons,
productions back to 1970, the latest newsletter, a history, YAT's
location, and pictures and details of the people who run the group.
Youth Connection
Theatre Company
A NE England youth/ amateur company based in Chester-le-Street, Co.
Durham. About, next & past productions (the latter basically a
list with some pics in some cases), where they are and how to contact
them. No internal navigation, soc much use of the [BACK] button required.
Youth Music Theatre:
UK
A new organisation, formed October 2003 (after the demise of the National
Youth Music Theatre) which" involves young people in all aspects
of music theatre with the emphasis on quality, team-work, training,
and, above all, enjoyment." Full details of what it does, who
the staff are, how to audition, and so on.
YouthPlays.com
Although an American site, this has much to interest people in
Britain. It has been created by three award-winning writers of plays
for young people, bringing all their plays together "under one
roof". As well as listing all their plays (with synopses), it
also has a search facility.
Y Touring
A company which tours, mainly to schools, with shows which deal with
scientific/ethical problems. A very full site, but the navigation
is a little confusing.
Peter Wynne-Willson
A Young People's Theatre writer and director. The site covers his
current projects, his work in Theatre in Education, his CV, some pages
which refer to some work he did in Korea, and how to contact him.
