Carmen

Manchester-based arts collective The Opera Shack promises to "bring opera into the 21st century" with its production of Carmen by Bizet combining opera, spoken word and jazz.

Set in Roaring '20s New York where prohibition is in full swing, everyone wants a ticket to the club where Carmen sings. This production aims to challenge the stereotype of Carmen, instead exploring narratives of domestic violence, with a percentage of proceeds going to support Manchester Rape Crisis.

The production will feature performers and arrangers from the Royal Northern College of Music and The University of Manchester.

It’s at the Kings Arms in Salford from June 14 to 16.
