£5 Fringe Launched The line-up for the first ever Five Pound Fringe, to take place as part of this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is to be launched at Highgates Boogaloo Bar on 15th June. The programme is to include comedy, theatre, music and childrens shows, all of which will cost just £5. The Five Pound Fringe will have two dedicated venues, the GRV and The Tron, but shows at other venues including the Assembly Rooms, Pleasance and Gilded Balloon are also taking part.
Theatre is to include The One and The Many, a new play from Trevor Lock, and Meesterlijk, a late night showcase featuring a company chosen to represent the best of contemporary Dutch theatre, supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands.
There will be a childrens show The Very Scariesome Lollipop Lady from comic Martha McBrier and music from Oompa Brass. The Five Pound Fringe will host a daily lunchtime showcase of highlights from the line-up and a late night show, Fucking Funny for a Fiver, offering five comics for a fiver. There will also be special guest gigs, For One Night Only, from stars of the Fringe.
The Five Pound Fringe is being launched by Jon Briley and Lisa Keddie of GSOH Comedy with the aim of creating a bridge between the main Fringe and the Free Fringe festivals, with lower prices encouraging greater risk-taking among audiences, but still requiring a greater level of commitment than for shows where they havent paid at all. Lisa Keddie, Co-ordinator of the Five Pound Fringe, said, The Five Pound Fringe isn't just about saving money - it is about encouraging audiences to take a risk and see something they have no knowledge of, someone they've not seen on the TV or doing an arena tour, at a fair price. It gives people the opportunity to have a proper fringe experience, seeing 6 or 7 shows in a day and still having enough change in their pocket to buy a pint.
Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
