Over 6,000 Free Tickets

6,336 people took advantage of the free ticket offer to see the Wales Theatre Company's Hamlet at Cardiff's New Theatre, part of the Cardiff 2005 celebrations. The show, which was performed in English for some performances and Welsh for others, ran for eleven performances between 2nd and 12th November.

New Theatre Marketing Manager, Matt Smith, said, “We always expected this to be popular but we are all taken back by scale of the take-up of this offer. We have received excellent feedback from people who saw the performance, many of whom had never seen a Shakespeare play before.”

Rodney Berman, Cardiff Council Leader, commented, “The Cardiff 2005 celebrations have been a big success, and the New Theatre and Wales Theatre Company have helped play a part in this. Cardiff Council is committed to bringing the arts to as many people as possible and it is very pleasing to see so many people taking up the offer to see Hamlet. I hope they all enjoyed the performance as much as I did.”
