ACE Announced the New Council

The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP today announced the membership of the new Council for the single arts funding organisation created by the merger of the Arts Council of England and the English Regional Arts Boards. The membership of the new Council is:

  • Tom Bloxham
  • Deborah Bull
  • Paul Collard
  • Deborah Grubb
  • Sue Woodford Hollick
  • Professor Alan Livingston
  • Stephen Lowe
  • Joanna McGregor
  • Brian McMaster
  • Elsie Owusu
  • William Sieghart
  • Stuart Timperley
  • Dorothy Wilson

As part of their role as Council members, the following will chair one of the Regional Arts Councils, membership of which will be announced over the summer: Sir Norman Adsetts (Yorkshire), Tom Bloxham (North West), Paul Collard (Northern), Deborah Grubb (Southern & South East), Sue Woodford Hollick (London), Professor Alan Livingston (South West), Stephen Lowe (East Midlands), Stuart Timperley (East England), Dorothy Wilson (West Midlands).

Welcoming the Secretary of State’s announcement, Arts Council Chairman, Gerry Robinson, said:

‘I am delighted that we have such a strong group of people on the new Council. Together they provide an enormous range and depth of expertise and experience. I am very much looking forward to working with them over the coming years in support of the arts in all parts of England.’

Sir Norman AdsettsHon. Life President of Sheffield Insulations Group plc since 1996 and Chairman of Sheffield Theatres Trust since 1996.

Tom Bloxham
Property developer and co-founder of Urban Splash Limited and Honorary Fellow of RIBA.

Deborah Bull
Dancer, writer, broadcaster and director of the Artists' Development Initiative at the Royal Opera House.

Paul Collard
Head of Programme Development for Newcastle Gateshead Initiative and responsible for coordinating Newcastle Gateshead's bid for European Capital of Culture in 2008.

Deborah Grubb
Freelance arts consultant and Chair of Gardner Arts Centre, Brighton.

Sue Woodford Hollick
Chair of Tate Members Ltd, member of Tate Modern Advisory Council and Director of the Royal Commonwealth Society.

Professor Alan Livingston
Principal of Falmouth College of Arts and founder of the St Ives International Festival.

Stephen Lowe
Actor, director, artistic director and playwright for theatre, TV and film, and senior tutor of Writing for Performance at Dartington College of Arts.

Joanna MacGregor
Classical, jazz and contemporary music pianist, and Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music.

Brian McMaster
Director of the Edinburgh International Festival and Chair of the National Opera Studio.

Elsie Owusu
Principal of Elsie Owusu architects, and founder member and first Chair of the Society of Black Architects.

William Sieghart
Founder of National Poetry Day and Forward Poetry Prizes, Bedtime Reading Week and The Big Arts Week.

Stuart Timperley
Founding Partner and Chairman of Slatter Timperley Associates, and Visiting Professor at the University of Milan (ISTUD) and a Senior Associate at the Judge Institute, Cambridge University.

Dorothy Wilson
Artistic Director and Chief Executive of mac, Birmingham.
