ACE Job Cuts? Arts Council England is proposing to cut twenty jobs and to move a further fifty out of London, probably to one fo the regional offices, it has been announced. The proposal aims to centralise support services, which is where the job cuts will occur, outside of London and it is estimated that the new arrangements, part of an internal review, will save £800,000 a year. As a further saving measure the national office and the office of Arts Council London will be moved into the same building, although the Council is at pains to point out that the two organisations will not be amalgamated but will simply share the same office space. "Theres a difference between co-locating and amalgamating," a spokeswoman told The Stage. "You need that specialist local knowledge and manpower to deal with the organisations we fund in [London]." "As a publicly funded body we have a duty to deliver value in every possible way, so that the maximum amount of our income can be invested in developing the arts," chief executive Peter Hewitt said. Consultation on the proposals continues until September.
