Dateline: 23rd September, 2005
A new theatre company, dedicated purely to stage productions of the plays of the "Queen of Crime", Agatha Christie, is to be set up on 1st January, almost thirty years after the author's death. The Agatha Christie Theatre Company is a joint venture between the Christie estate and one of Britian's most well-known producers, Bill Kenwright and it will have sole rights to produce touring productions of her original stage plays. Its first production will be The Hollow, a Poirot mystery, which will play at the Theatre Royal, Windsor, from 11th to 21st January before embarking on a national tour. Future productions, which will all start from the Windsor venue, will be The Unexpected Guest (2007) and Spider's Webb (2008). Future plans include productions of Black Coffee, Witness for the Prosecution and Verdict. Matthew Prichard, Chairman of Agatha Christie Ltd, comments, "We are delighted to be joining forces with Bill Kenwright to present these first class new productions of my grandmother's work. Her plays remain as enduringly popular as ever and, as part of the major re-branding of her work in all media which my company is currently undertaking, we are thrilled to be a part of this initiative to ensure her plays are presented in productions of the high quality which they deserve." A new production of And Then There Were None, adapted by Kevin Elyot, opens at the Gielgud on 25th October (previews from 14th), the first production of a Christie play (apart from The Mousetrap) which has been allowed for four years, as the Christie estate has been engaged in re-branding her work. Steven Pimlott directs and Gemma Jones and Tara Fitzgerald star. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
