McAvoy and Ejiofor Award Nomination British actors James McAvoy and Chiwetel Ejiofor have been nominated for the Orange Rising Star Award at this year's BAFTAs. The award, voted for by the public, is for young actors who show "star quality". Both have been nominated for their TV and film work, although they also have respectable experience in thearte. McAvo's most recent film appearance is as the fawn Mr Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and he is also well known for his appearance in the Channel 4 series Shameless. Recent theatre includes Laura Wade's Breathing Corpses at the Royal Court. Ejiofor is nominated for films Dirty Pretty Things, Love Actually and Kinky Boots. His best known theatre appearance was in the National Theatre production of Joe Penhall's Blue/Orange. Also nominated are Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain), Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) from Mexico who last year appeared in Lorca's Blood Wedding at the Almeida, and Rachel McAdams (The Family Stone). Bafta chairman Duncan Kenworthy said, "The Orange Rising Star Award is a significant new award that asks the public to judge what they are uniquely placed to judge - stardom. This exciting award will shine an early spotlight on the talented young actors and actresses who are the future of our industry." The award has been created in honour of the late casting director Mary Selway, who worked on such films as Gosford Park, Out Of Africa, Schindler's List and Withnail and I. Other nominations will be announced on 19th January. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
