According to the Sunday Times, a group of London promoters have written to the BBC to complain that the corporation is unfairly promoting Andrew Lloyd Webber and his Really Useful Company by broadcasting Any Dream Will Do, aimed at finding a Joseph for his forthcoming production at the Adelphi (opening 17th July after previews from 6th), and the previous casting programme How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?. Concern has also been expressed that three of the finalists are professionals, at least one of whom, Lee Mead, has already appeared on the West End stage and on tour in Lloyd Webber musicals, one of them (the touring production of Joseph) produced by Bill Kenwright who is one of the judges. The chairman of the culture, media and sport select committee, Tory MP John Whittingdale, is reported to have said that he will take the matter up with the oversight organisation, the BBC Trust. The names of the producers who write the letter have not been released. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
