Stage Combat Course

There will be a British National Stage Combat Workshop from 25th July to 5th August 2005 (weekdays only) at Islington Arts and Media School, Turle Road, London N4 3LS.

Training in Stage Combat is becoming more and more a necessity in today's film and theatre world. The public want to see exciting action sequences, while the performers need to remain safe.

The British National Stage Combat Workshop provides the very best quality training at an accessible cost. To maintain the best standards, they have an exceptional staff-to-student ratio with seven highly qualified teachers, who bring with them a wealth of professional expertise.

Staff are leading professionals in the film industry (recent credits include Troy and Alexander), in the theatre (including The Royal National Theatre and The Royal Shakespeare Company), as well as expert teachers with thousands of hours of teaching experience at leading Drama Schools such as RADA, Guildhall, Central and Italia Conti.

The Basic Workshop
This is the workshop to choose if you have little or no experience of stage combat, offering technique and safety foundation skills in the use of Rapier & Dagger and Unarmed Combat, with emphasis on the theatrical presentation of each system. No prior experience is necessary for participation in this course.

The Intermediate/Advanced Workshop
This workshop covers Knife and Rapier & Buckler, and will also include a series of related acting classes to enhance the performance of staged fights. This workshop is open to those who have gained a basic certificate in stage combat from a recognised Stage Combat organisation (BASSC, BADC, SAFD, SAuFD, FDC, etc).

Certification by the British Academy of Stage & Screen Combat, an industry standard qualification recognised by Equity and Spotlight, is offered at these workshops.

Confirmed teachers include BASSC Master Teacher Bret Yount, Dr Aaron Anderson (BASSC/SAFD), Scot Mann (BASSC/SAFD), Ian Prater, Dr Chris Main, Rosa Nicolas, Cameron Kendrick and Jonathan Leverett. All our teachers are certified by the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat.

Fees
The workshop fee is £330
Concessionary fee - £300 (students, Equity, members of stage combat organisations, and Talent Circle)
BASSC member fee - £290
(All test fees are included.)
Places can be reserved with a (non-refundable) deposit of £50 until 4th July, when the full fee becomes due. Places are strictly limited to maintain low student-teacher ratios in the interests of effective learning.
