Boyden to Head BOV Review Peter Boyden, the author of the Boyden Report to ACE on regional theatre (2001) and the current chair of Culture South West, the Cultural Consortium for the South West of England, has been asked by the board to review the future of the Bristol Old Vic. The board's chair Rupert Rhymes has said that all possible scenarios will be considered and that there is no preferred outcome, excpet that everyone is agreed that there should be a producing company of some sort. Arts Council England regularly funds the theatre (£1m per annum) and has also provided £2m in rescue funding since 2001 and a futher £2m towards the refurbishment of the Theatre Royal. However it points out that audiences have fallen to 35% and that, although it is committed to seeing that theatre production remains in Bristol, it also has a responsibility tomake sure that public money is invested in the most effective way and so has asked the Bristol Old Vic board to provide a "clear and viable business plan". Boyden is expected to report back to the board by the end of the year.
