Dateline: 22nd February, 2004 New Edinburgh Fringe Venue Please note: the information contained here is no longer accurate. Broughton St Mary's is not being used as a Fringe venue and, in fact, the building is for sale (October 2005). Ideally situated in the city centre and close to the Playhouse Theatre, Broughton St. Mary's is a new Festival Fringe Venue in the heart of the bustling Broughton area with its many bars and restaurants. We aim to provide help to all arts groups and provide a cost effective opportunity to perform at the Fringe. The venue comprises the Main Hall, with a seating capacity of 100, an upstairs Studio with 25 seats and a café. We provide technical support, a Box Office and Front of House staff. Hire of the rooms is on a straight rental basis, based on weekly time slots of 2 hours. The 2-hour slot includes your performance time plus get-in and get-out. All takings at our Box Office go directly to your company. We do not charge for ticket printing and there is no commission - even if you enjoy a sell-out run there are no additional fees on top of your rental. However, a minimum of 25% of tickets will be allocated to the Fringe box office. They charge 7.5% + VAT of their sales and subtract 3% for the Performing Rights Society where appropriate. Our Box Office opens in Week 1 and is open from 10.30 am to 8.30 pm Monday to Saturday. We do not accept credit cards, but there is a telephone booking facility. The ticket prices will be at each company's discretion, however, we do recommend you keep your prices as low as possible. There is a great deal of competition for bums-on-seats, so be careful not to price yourself out of the market. A reasonable figure would be £10 max for the Main Hall and £6 max in the Studio. The Fringe Office runs promotional offers (such as 2 for 1) that you will have the option on. We will produce and distribute a colour brochure featuring shows at the venue. The cost of the brochure will be divided amongst all companies who wish to be included. The venue is only operational and staffed during the Fringe, but the manager can be contacted by email or fax (see below) at all other times. All technical queries will be passed to the Technical Manager and answered promptly. Technical Provision Basic staging, lighting and sound will be provided in both the Main Hall and Studio. Each company will be allocated 1 hour for a technical get-in on the Sunday prior to their run. The Technical Manager will supervise each get-in and be on-hand throughout the run. Each company will need to have their own technician for each performance. If you don't have a technician, please inform us prior to your arrival, as the Technical Manager will be available to do the work for a negotiable fee. Please also inform us of any additional technical equipment requirements well in advance. We may be able to obtain these items on your behalf from local hire companies at a competitive price. Set and props storage is very limited so please keep this to a minimum. In any case, as your slot includes setting up and striking your set, it is wise to keep things as simple as possible. We can provide the loan of items of furniture such as a table, desk or chairs enabling you to keep your transportation cost to a minimum. No smoking, naked flame or pyrotechnics permitted anywhere in the building. Room Hire Charges
The above prices are based on 1 slot per company per week. Discounts of 10% - 20% are available to companies requiring additional slots, or a slot lasting more than one week. Applications should be completed and returned as soon as possible. All companies offered a slot will be issued with a contract in March. 50% deposit will be due on return of contract with the remainder being due in July. Payment for advertising in the Venue Brochure and Fringe Programme will also be payable on return of contract.
