Mackintosh Wins Tourism Award Cameron Mackintosh has been presented with an award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism from Visit Britain, part of the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence. He received the award for his investment in the West End, which includes the refurbishment of the Prince of Wales, the refurbishment and relaunch of the Strand as the Novello Theatre and the Albery as the Noël Coward. He also has plans to spend £20m on refurbishing the Gielgud and the Queen's and creating the new 500-seater Sondheim Theatre (see our story of April 2003). The total cost of all the refurbishment of existing theatres and creating the Sondheim will be £35m. The award also recognises his work as a producer, which includes the West End's two longest-running shows, Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
