DGGB Award for Mendes Sam Mendes is to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Directors Guild of Great Britain. "The Guild likes the idea of being bold enough to recognise formidable achievement in a body of work, no matter the age of the individual," a statement said, referring to the fact that Mendes is just 39. Previous recipients of the Award include Stanley Kubrik, John Schlesinger and Trevor Nunn. Mendes was artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse for ten years, during which time he won two best director Oliviers, and he also won the Oscar for best director his first film American Beauty (2000). He directed his first play for the RSC at the age of 25 and won a Critics' Circle ebst director award for his version of The Cherry Orchard with Judi Dench. The DGGB is also to present an award for directorial achievement in theatre to Simon McBurney of Complicite. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
