Mills Stays Longer at EIF The Edinburgh International Festival director Jonathan Mills will remain in post until 2014. He was originally appointed for five years in 2006, presentin his first Festival in August 2007, and last year agreed to stay until 2012. Now he has agreed a further two year extension to his contract. "The opportunities that major sporting events the Olympics, Paralympics and Commonwealth Games (in 2014) offer the festival, Edinburgh and Scotland in 2012 and 2014 make my role as festival director particularly exciting," he said. He was Director of the Melbourne Festival during the Sydney Olympics. Ewan Brown, Vice-Chair of the Festival Council, said, "Jonathan is particularly well placed to guide the Edinburgh International Festival in making the most of opportunities surrounding the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games for the Festival, Edinburgh and Scotland. We are delighted he has agreed to remain director through this period." He has built his Festival programming on themes: the relationship between words and music, Artists without Borders, the Scottish Enlightenment and The New Worlds. The 2011 Festival 2011 will focus on the cultures of India, China, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and their influence.
