Dateline: 20th November, 2003 ETT Cancels Tours English Touring Theatre has been forced to cancel two tours - the premiere of Richard Bean's Honeymoon Suite and the revival of Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe? The Royal Court run of the Bean play, however, will go ahead in January. The cancellation comes after the company discovered that its financial position is not what it had been led to believe. A member of the staff has resigned but it is not known whether the shortfall is due to financial mismanagement or some other, even possibly criminal, cause. Artistic director Stephen Unwin described the situation as a "cash-flow nightmare" but says there is no threat to the long-term future of the company. The Arts Council has advanced some of next year's funding to ensure that current commitments can be met and that Honeymoon Suite will play at the Royal Court and has also issued a statement supporting the company. the company's board has also affirmed their support for the director and the remaining staff. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
