GSC's Open Air Shakespeare Season The Guildford Shakespeare Company has announced its sixth open air Shakespeare season.which runs from 16th June to 23rd July. Much Ado About Nothing will run from 16th June to 2nd July in Guildford Castle Gardens and The Merchant of Venice from 14th to 23rd July in Guildford College of Law Grounds, the first time that a major professional theatre production has been staged in the gardens of Guildfords College of Law, the centre piece of which is an Elizabethan manor house dating from 1586. Much Ado will be directed by Hannah Chissick with design by Susannah Henry, who recently designed Hamlet, and Charlotte Conquest returns to Guildford following The Taming of the Shrew (2009) and Romeo and Juliet (2010) to direct Merchant. She is joined by designer Neil Irish who created The Two Gentlemen of Verona for GSC in 2009. Sarah Gobran, Joint Artistic & Executive Producer, commented, This summer marks a very exciting time for GSC. We have already enjoyed an incredible start to our 5th Anniversary year with a grant from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, becoming a registered charity and a totally spell-binding production of Hamlet in February. In these tough economic times it is so inspiring to see GSC continuing to go from strength to strength; our audiences are giving us a clear mandate for more locally produced professional theatre, and I am really excited at the prospect of this summers open-air double-bill.
