International Theatre Institute Awards A British choreographer and a London fringe artistic director have received awards from the International Theatre Institute. Wayne McGregor of the Royal Ballet received the award for Excellence in International Dance for his work with the Royal Ballet and Random Dance, while Mehmet Ergen, artistic director of the Arcola in Dalston, received the award for Excellence in International Theatre. The International Theatre Institute (ITI), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), was founded in Prague in 1948 by UNESCO and the international theatre community. It aims "to promote international exchange of knowledge and practice in theatre arts (drama, dance, music theatre, any of the performing arts) in order to consolidate peace and solidarity between peoples, to deepen mutual understanding and increase creative co-operation between all people in the performing arts."
