Dateline: 18th March, 2005 Springer Tour Postponed The proposed tour of Jerry Springer the Opera has been postponed until January 2006 as eleven out of the 36 regional theatres which were due to take the show have pulled out under pressure from Christian Voice, the fundamentalist group which orchestrated the campaign against the BBC. The director of the group, Stephen Green, wrote to the theatres and threatened them with prosecutions for blasphemy and "prayer vigils" if they took the show. It is also understood that some local councils have reservations about the show. ATG has issued a statement that it is their intention to programme the show at a number of their venues and Clear Channel Entertainment, the largest operator of regional theatres in Britain, told The Stage that it is pencilled in for a number of their venues and whether or not it goes ahead is a decision for the producers. "This would be the same for any touring show which is not a Clear Channel production," the statement concluded. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
