KAOS to Tour Moll Again

Following the huge success of their touring production last year, KAOS Theatre Company again take to the road with Daniel Defoe’s classic tale of adventure and debauchery, Moll Flanders on tour from 21st February. This account of one woman’s journey through poverty, prostitution, pick pocketing and penitence is directed and adapted by the company’s Artistic Director Xavier Leret.

Moll Flanders, published in 1722, was one of the earliest English novels. Like many early novels, it is told in the first person as a narrative, and is presented as a truthful account, since at that time the idea of a long, realistic work of fiction was still new. It is not only an entertaining and action-packed story, but also gives a valuable and lively picture of 17th century society. Although Moll is an exceptional character because of her ingenuity and extraordinary life, the problems that Moll faces are firmly rooted in her society.

This production features KAOS regular Ralf Higgins (nominated for Best Actor in the Manchester Evening News awards for his lead role in the KAOS Richard III) as Moll. In a break with convention KAOS took the male perspective of the story and plays it out on stage.

KAOS are an acclaimed ensemble of artists, formed in 1992. They have an international reputation for creating breath-taking, thought-provoking, moving and highly original productions. KAOS' work combines physical theatre, storytelling, text, live and recorded music and video. In recent years they have toured their work extensively in the UK as well as performing in Australia, Taiwan, Italy, Hungary, France, Germany and Bangladesh. Moll Flanders is the company’s 19th production in ten years.

The KAOS Moll Flanders is a first time collaboration with Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for The Arts.
