London Councils Cut All Arts Grants

After the decision by London Councils to cut £10m from its £26.4m grants to voluntary and arts organisations under the London Borough Grants Scheme, which would have cut £3m from grants to arts organisations, was quashed by a High Court judge (see our news story of 2nd February), it was forced to rerun the process by which that decision was reached and has now announced that it is to cut all arts grants, including those to the Independent Theatre Council and Audiences London, from 15th August.

The cuts will also affect the Tricycle Theatre, Tamasha, Clean Break, Oily Cart and the Orange Tree in Richmond.

Although the London-wide grants will be cut, individual local councils can still support arts organisations within their boundaries.

Arts Council England has said that the cuts are "disappointing" because "the collective approach of the London Councils grants scheme has enabled cultural organisations to extend their reach across the capital and to work with some of the most disadvantaged communities."
