Imedla Staunton in Vera Drake

London Film Critics' Awards

The Mike Leigh film Vera Drake picked up five awards in the London Critics' Awards announced yesterday, including Best Actress for Imelda Staunton who is hotly tipped for a BAFTA later this week and has been nominated for an Oscar.

The winners were:

British Actress of the Year
Kate Winslet for Eternal Summer of the Spotless Mind and Eva Birthistle for Ae Fond Kiss

British Actress in a supporting role
Romola Garai for Inside I'm Dancing

Best Actor
Jamie Foxx for Ray

British Actor of the Year
Daniel Craig for Enduring Love

British Actor in a supporting role
Phil Davis for Vera Drake

British Newcomer of the Year
Natalie Press for My Summer of Love

Film of the Year
Sideways

British Film of the Year (The Attenborough Award)

Director of the Year
Martin Scorsese for The Aviator
