It's Not a Sequel, Says Lloyd Webber

"I don't regard this (Love Never Dies) as a sequel (to Phantom)," said Andrew Lloyd Webber, "I regard it as a completely standalone piece. If you hadn't seen the original, you wouldn't think twice.

"I really would not be sitting here now if I didn't think it was a great story. It would be boring to just approach this as a sequel. I thought this was two really interesting characters who I particularly enjoyed writing for, but in a completely different context."

He was speaking at the launch of the new musical, for which some casting has just been announced. No further casting has yet been announced, although the original cast album has already been recorded and will be released a day after the world premiere.

He also confirmed that the show will premiere at the Adelphi theatre on 9th March 2010 (previews from 20th February) and that a New York production will premiere on 11th November 2010, though casting has not yet been confirmed.

In the West End, Ramin Karimloo will play The Phantom, with Sierra Boggess as Christine and Summer Strallen as Meg Giry. No other casting has been announced.
