Critics Don't Like "Largely Incomprehensible" LOTR Canadian, American and British critics have been dismissive of the musical Lord of the Rings, reportedly the most expensive in history, which has opened in Toronto. Ben Brantley of the New York Times described at as "largely incomprehensible", while the Toronto Star simply called it "dull". The Telegraph's Charles Spencer wrote, "I have a hunch that most will find the show far from hobbit forming." On the other hand, Sam Marlowe in the Times says that its "great strength lies in the way its constituent parts combine in an organic whole" and ends by saying "theatrical magic wins out over the weaknesses". The show is expected at the West End's Dominion Theatre early next year. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
