Little Women in the West End

Emma Reeves' stage adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, first seen at the Lilian Baylis Theatre at Sadler's Wells in 2002, will transfer to the West End's Duchess Theatre on 13th October (previews from 27th September), initially booking to 15th January, 2005.

Louisa May Alcott's semi-autobiographical novel was first published in America in 1868 and was an instant success selling over two hundred copies a month. 136 years later the story continues to engage with readers of all ages and maintains an enduring affection in people's hearts. The moral, political and social issues inherent in the book have ensured a wealth of adaptations for film, television and radio - the most recent being a dramatized serialization for BBC Radio 4. Last year it was included in the Top 20 of the BBC's Big Read in a list that also comprised Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, and War and Peace. The story's iconic status has inspired inclusion in classic popular programmes such as Porridge, The Simpsons and Friends.

Directed by Andrew Loudon, it features Lizzie Conrad as Marmee and Sarah Edwardson as Meg, Sarah Grochala as Jo, Phoebe Thomas as Beth and Diana Eskell as Amy.
