MIF Director Moves to ACE The general director of the Manchester International Festival, Simon Mellor, is to replace Andrew Nairne as executive director, arts, at Arts Council England from March. Prior to takin up his post at MIF, Mellor wored at at the Lyric Hammersmith (where he worked for twelve years, the last six as Executive Director), the Southbank Centre, Battersea Arts Centre, Gloria Theatre Company and Oxford's Pegasus Theatre. "(Simon Mellor) has made the Manchester International Festival a force to be reckoned with across all art forms," said Alan Davey, ACE's chief executive, "and did outstanding work as the executive director of the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. He’ll bring fresh ideas as we continue to make sure arts and culture remain at the heart of what we are as a country." Mellor said that it was "only the prospect of tackling such an exciting challenge" that persuaded him to move from MIF. "I’m enormously proud," he went on, "of what Alex Poots, Christine Cort and I have achieved in founding the Manchester International Festival and helping it go on to be such a success."
