Morris Leaves BAC,
Joins NT
Battersea Arts Centre's artistic director, Tom Morris, is to
leave the centre where he has worked for the past eight years to join
the National Theatre as Associate Director in charge of developing new
theatre projects. The move will happen in January 2004. He joins the
NT, he says, because the "new National is driven by an embracing,
experimental and inclusive approach to British theatre."
Morris was responsible for the birth and development of Jerry Springer
- The Opera, which began at one of BAC's "scratch" sessions.
NT artistic director, Nicholas Hytner, an admirer, he says, of "the

about what theatre can be", expressed himself delighted that Morris
is to join the organisation.
