Stephen Beckett and Adrian McLoughlin, Sarah Moyle, Paul Kemp, Stuart
Fox, Melanie Gutteridge and Billie-Claire Wright. It runs until 11th

There is now a Friends' Scheme aimed at over 30s, which will enable

Jerry Will Go to Broadway
Jerry Springer - The Opera is to transfer to Broadway. It will
open in new York in October 2005, following a six week trial run in
San Francisco, possibly in the spring. It is not yet known who will
play Springer, although Jerry Springer himself is said to be interested
but commitments will probably rule him out. Among those who have already
expressed an interest in the part are Harvey Keitel and Kevin Kline
Mackintosh Follows
Dench at RSAMD
Cameron Mackintosh is to succeed Judi Dench as the President of president
of Glasgows Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The appointment,
which is mainly ceremonial, is for five years. The Cameron Mackintosh
Foundation currently provides a scholarship at the RSAMD for students
of the Master of Performance in Musical Theatre.
John Wallace, Principal of the Academy, said, The Academy is
greatly honoured to have Sir Cameron as President and we look forward
to having a long and happy association with him.
Sir Cameron Mackintosh said, I am delighted to become President
of the RSAMD even though I will have the unenviable task of following
the great Dame Judi. The RSAMD for a long time has been at the forefront
of excellence in training for music and drama but I am particularly
pleased to strengthen my association at this juncture when the Academy
is broadening its remit to include the writing and performance of musical
theatre. At a time when more and more young people are drawn to the
performing arts, this far reaching and innovative scheme will undoubtedly
prove a tremendous catalyst for Scottish talent."
Dinner
and Betrayal to Tour
The National Theatre production of Moira Buffini's Dinner
starts a two month tour on 19th June at the Arts, Cambridge, followed
by Guildford, Malvern, Newcastle, Richmond, Cardiff, Brighton and Oxford.
Stephanie Beacham replaces Harriet Walter and the play also stars Gaby
Roslin and Louise Jameson.
Later this month Pinter's Betrayal
also starts a tour, beginning at Richmond and moving on to Cambridge,
Stoke on Trent, Woking, Lincoln, Bromley and Brighton. Samantha Janus,
Antony Byrne and David Michaels replace Janie Dee, Hugo Speer and Aden
Gillett.
Stiles Heckled in Oleanna
Clearly Mamet's Oleanna
still rouses passions. At both the first and third previews, as, at
the end of the play, as the professor, John (Aaron Eckhart) raises a
chair above his head as if to bring it down to the student Carol (Julia
Stiles), someone in the audience shouted, "Do it!" Interestingly
one heckler was a man, the other a woman. Stiles described the incidents
as "traumatic".
Notes
for Independence Day
Following its recent sell-out success at the Donmar Warehouse, Notes
from New York, the West End's first and only platform for contemporary
US musical theatre, will return on Sunday 4th July to celebrate Independence
Day at the Arts Theatre, where the series began life last year, featuring
the work of the multi-award-winning and Grammy nominated Andrew Lippa
(John & Jen, The Wild Party), Tony Award nominee Craig
Carnelia (Is There Life After High School?), and the composer
of Off-Broadway's longest ever running show Jimmy Roberts (I Love
You, You're Perfect, Now Change).
Staged in an intimate cabaret setting, Notes from New York will
feature a number of UK and European premières, including songs
from Andrew Lippa's new musical A Little Princess ahead of its
world première in the US this summer, material from Jimmy Roberts'
recent Off-Broadway hit The Thing About Men and work from Craig
Carnelia's oft-admired but rarely performed repertoire. Loosely themed
to tie in with Independence Day, the show will focus on four young people's
search for identity as they battle through teenage angst, discover each
other, strive for independence and learn to live their lives.

With Shared Experience

Actress Imogen Stubbs (currently in Hamlet
at the Old Vic) is to have her first play premiered at the Gielgud on
29th June, according to a report in the Daily Mail. The play, called
We Happy Few and based on the story of Henrietta Oaks, who ran
a theatre company during World war II, will star Juliet Stevenson and
will be directed by Stubbs' husband, Trevor Nunn. Bill Kenwright produces.
Ash Has "Unknown Infection"
Actress Lesley Ash is said to be responding well to treatment for what
is being called "an unknown infection", contracted when she
was being treated for a broken rib and collapsed lung at the Chelsea
and Westminster Hospital early last week. Extensive tests have been
carried out with the aim of identifying the infection, but she is, a
statement says, responding well to a course of antibiotics.
The earlier injury was sustained, she said, when she hit a bedside
table during sex.
