Holm to Play Pope
Ian Holm is to play Pope John Paul II in a four-part TV series for US
station CBS. He will play the Pontiff from the time of his election
to his death while a younger actor, not yet named, will play the younger
man.
The series will tell the story of the life of the late Pope and the
development of its script has been supervised by Vatican historians,
according to "Variety".
Menier to Revive Sondheim's
George
The Menier Chocolate Factory will present a revival of Stephen Sondheim's
Sunday in the Park with George from 17th November to 18th February.
It will star Olivier Award-winner Daniel Evans.
Who's the Daddy, Mr
Blunkett?
Who's the Daddy?, a farce based partly on the affair between
the then Home Secretary David Blunkett and publisher of the "Spectator"
Kimberly Quinn and also on two other "Spectator" affairs,
between editor and MP Boris Johnson and contributor Petronella Wyatt,
and between writer Rod Liddle and the magazines receptionist,
comes to the King's Head, Islington, from 14th July to 28th August.
Written by the magazine's theatre critics Toby Young and Lloyd Evans
and directed by Jeremy Lloyd, the play features Claudia Shear (as Kimberly
Quinn), Paul Prescott (David Blunkett), Tim Hudson (Boris Johnson),
Sara Crowe (Petronella Wyatt), Peter Hamilton-Dyer (Rod Liddle), Michelle
Ryan (receptionist Tiffany the Mole), Jot Davies (chef) and Saul Reichlin
(Michael Howard).
Three McGanns in Cooney
Farce
Brothers Joe, Stephen and Mark McGann are to play the eponymous three
brothers in Ray and Michael Cooney's Tom, Dick and Harry at the
Duke of York's from 23rd August (previews from 10th) to 12th November.
Also in the cast are Louise Jameson, Hannah Waterman and Mark Wingett.
This will be the 23rd production of a Ray Cooney farce in the West
End.
The Countess
to Close Early
After less than enthusiastic notices, George Murphy's The
Countess (Criterion) will close on 9th July, just five weeks
after it opened. It was booking until 17th September.
Tall Stories Bring
The Gruffalo to the West End
After a 19 venue national tour, Tall Stories bring their version of
The Gruffalo, based on the award winning picture book by Julia
Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, to the West End's Criterion Theatre from
21st July to 20th August.
The show, which started at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre in 2001 as
part of Scottish International Childrens Festival, has already
been seen in London at the Soho (Christmas 2002), the Polka, BAC, the
National Theatre, and the Pleasance (twice, including part of this year's
tour). It has also toured Canada and the US.
A further tour will follow in the autumn.
Extending
Dancing in the Streets (Cambridge Theatre) has extended by two
months to 19th November.
