Zipp! to Tour
Gyles Brandreth's "100 musicals in 100 minutes, or your money back" show, Zipp!, is to have a three month tour of the UK before heading to New York. It will play Darlington (27th January), Dartford, Winchester, Truro, Bath, High Wycombe, Surrey, Poole, Lichfield, Epsom, Swansea, Llandudno, Peterborough, Buxton, Newbury, Guildford, Jersey, Blackpool, Bradford, Tunbridge Wells, Worthing, Stevenage, Aberdare, Chelmsford, Sevenoaks, Plymouth, Huddersfield, Potters Bar, Crawley, Eastbourne, Leicester, Crewe, Bedworth and Croydon. It is expected in New York in October.

Sunday Will Change for Webb
There will be changes when Marti Webb takes over from Denise Van Outen in Tell Me on a Sunday on 13th January, lyricist Don Black has said. “We won’t have her apologizing to her girlfriends for not going partying with them in Ibiza!” he says, in recognition of the fact that Webb, for whom the origional version was written, is now approaching sixty. The new version, he adds, will be closer to the original.

Liaisons to Close Early
The revival of Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Playhouse is to close on 10th January, after a run of only one month. It was originally booking to 27th March.

New Dowie Show at the Drill Hall
Claire Dowie, who created the "stand-up theatre" genre, will be previewing her latest show, H to He, at the Drill Hall from 5th to 15th February. Her first novel, Creating Chaos, will be published in April by Methuen and will be launched at the Drill Hall at 8.00pm on 3rd April.

Dowie and Ken Campbell will be performing together at Tony Allen`s Performance Club, downstairs at the Kings Head, Crouch End Broadway, London N8, on Tuesday 6th January (doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm) and at Ginglik (the bar under the Green), 1 Shepherds Bush Green, London W12, on Thursday 8th January (Show at 8.45pm).

New Abigail Tour
The 25th anniversary tour of Mike Leigh's Abigail's Party kicks off in Truro on 19th January before miving on to Bath, Coventry, Nottingham, Liverpool, Plymouth, Oxford, Malvern and Woking. It is hoped that additional venues will be announced soon.

Nightingale to open in January
The Nightingale, Brighton-based Prodigal Theatre's new home, is to open on 27th January, with the first performance night being on 28th. The first proeuction will be a revival of their 2002 Edinburgh Fringe success The Tragedian Part I – The Rise to Fame of Edmund Kean. The theatre's patron is Steven Berkoff.

Big Extension for Jerry
(Sorry: couldn't resist the double entendre!) Jerry Springer - The Opera has extended its booking period by more than nine months to 8th January 2005.

Film Critics' Circle Awards Nominations
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World has been nominated in six cateorgies, and Young Adam in seven in the London Film Critics' Circle Awards. Among the nominations are Russell Crowe (Master and Commander) for Best Actor and Paul Bettany (Master and Commander) and Ewan McGregor (Young Adam) for Best British Actor. David Mackenzie (Young Adam) is also nominated for Best British Director, Best British Screenwriter and Best British Newcomer.

The nominations for Best Film are Master and Commander, The Hours, Far From Heaven, Mystic River and The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King.

Extending
The following shows have announced extended booking periods:

  • Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to 9th February, 2005
