Seán Doran

ENO's Doran Steps Down
The artistic director and chief executive of English National Opera, Seán Doran, has stepped down with immediate effect and executive director Loretta Tomasi will take over as chief executive and director of opera programming John Berry becomes artistic director.

Martin Smith, Chairman of ENO, said: “The fact that ENO is enjoying a renaissance, with a very successful season artistically and breaking box office records, owes much to the talent of Seán. We are grateful for all that he has achieved at ENO. My Board and I are pleased that Loretta and John will continue to inspire and to develop this wonderful opera company.

“Seán has made an important contribution to ENO. He brought fresh thinking and a new artistic energy. During his time we opened the refurbished London Coliseum to great acclaim and have enjoyed many successful productions, including the musical On The Town and our current best seller, Madam Butterfly.”

Doran, who joined the company in 2003 when it was experiencing financial problems, said, “While I am sad to be leaving, I am proud of what I have achieved. I took on this role with a number of big challenges for change that would secure the future of the organisation and these have been met.”

Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell to Make West End Debut
Hollywood star Neve Campbell is to make her West End debut in Arthur Miller's Resurrection Blues which opens at the Old Vic on 22nd February (previews from 14th) and runs until 22nd April. The play, Miller's penultimate, will be directed by Robert Altman, who is making his UK stage debut.

Resurrection Blues had its world premiere at Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis in 2002, but Miller continued to work on it, completing the revised version of the script just a month before his death at the age of 89.

Further casting will be announced later.

Sound of Music Reality TV
Andrew Lloyd Webber and the BBC are in talks to develop a Pop Idol style reality TV programme to find a star for his forthcoming production of The Sound of Music. Co-producer David Ian said, "We think this could be an interesting way of casting someone who is not known yet but who has enormous talent."

The programme has the working title How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? and the winner will be offered the part of Maria for the first run.

Extending/Closing
Stomp (Vaudeville Theatre) has extended to 1st October, 2006, and I Am My Own Wife (Duke of York's) will close on 10th December. It was booking until February next year.
