Bailey and Davies Play Simon
The classic Neil Simon comedy, The Odd Couple, will be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe's newest venue, Assembly @ Assembly Hall (the Church of Scotland HQ on the Mound), starring Bill Bailey and Alan Davies. The Odd Couple will be directed by Guy Masterson and feature Ian Coppinger, Katherine Jakeways, Dave Johns, Owen O'Neill, Phil Nicol and Lizzie Roper. The play will be on throughout the Fringe at 3.15pm.

Ridiculusmus in The Importance of Being Earnest

Two-Man Importance
Ridiculusmus (David Woods and Jon Haynes) is to present a two man version of Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest at the Barbican Pit from 9th June (preview on 8th) to 9th July. Directed by Jude Kelly, it has already toured Australia and will set off on a national tour of the UK after the Barbican run.

Vegemite Tales Returns
Melanie Tait's play about Australians living in London, The Vegemite Tales, returns to the capital this month with a new cast. It runs from 7th June to 27th August at the Riverside Studios.

NYT Summer Season
The National Youth Theatre has announced its summer 2005 season:

  • Citizenship by Mark Ravenhill at the National Theatre (Shell Connections) - 12th July
  • The Steadfast Tin Soldier by Hans Christian Andersen (5th and 6th August), part of the NT's free Watch This Space season
  • Antigone At Hell’s Mouth, a co-production with Kneehigh Theatre, at the Soho Theatre (12th August - 3rd September)
  • NYT Shorts, a series of short plays, presented before the performances of Antigone at the Soho
  • Letters of War, performed on board HMS Belfast, from 27th to 29th August
  • Deptford Tales (2nd to 4th September). A free perofrmance in the Master Shipwrights Palace by the Thames

Stewart in Health Scare
Last weekend, while filming in Manchester, Patrick Stewart attended the Manchester Royal Infirmary Accident and Emergency department as he was feeling unwell. He was given the all-clear by doctors. A spokeswoman for the 64 year old actor said, "He was feeling unwell at the weekend while filming. He got it checked out at the local A&E department and he is absolutely fine. He was not taken by ambulance. He either drove himself or was driven." She refused to confirm that he had suffered chest pains and that he had been connected to an ECG machine when there.

Extending
The following have announced extensions to their booking periods:

  • The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty's) to 1st April 2005
  • Les Miserables (Queen's) also to 1st April
