Casting for Nunn's Hamlet Announced
The casting for Trevor Nunn's forthcoming production of Hamlet at the Old Vic. Nunn's aim is to have actors of the same age as the characters playing the parts.

Hamlet will be Ben Whishaw (currently in His Dark Materials at the National) and Ophelia will be Samantha Whittaker who was Quidditch player Katie Bell in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone and also played opposite Jonny Lee Miller in the BBC Pardoner's Tale. Imogen Stubbs will lays Gertrude and Tom Mannion Claudius.

Goat to Transfer to the Apollo
Albee's The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, starring Jonathan Pryce, is to transfer from the Almeida to the Apollo on 15th April. Its run at the Almeida ends on 12th March.

Zimmerman for King's Head before the West End
Leigh Zimmerman will appear in a the premiere of Carl Djerassi’s Three on a Couch at the King's Head later this month before opening in The Producers in the autumn. Also in the cast are Rolf Saxon and Owen Brenman. Three on a Couch runs from 29th March to 25th April (previews from 17th March).

Faithfull to Star in BITE Original
Marianne Faithfull is to star in The Black Rider, created by director Robert Wilson, composer Tom Waits and William Burroughs and based on the same story on which the opera Der Freischultz is based. The production, the only one to be produced by the Barbican in the BITE season, will open on 21st May (previews from 17th).

Quilley's Autobiography Published
Denis Quilley's autobiography, Happiness Indeed: An Actor’s Life, has been published by Oberon Books. The last chapter was completed after his death by his wife Stella from his notes and drafts. It is published in hardback at £10.99.

Narnia to Be the Next Lord of the Rings?
Disney is to co-finance and distribute The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, the first of what could be a long series of live-action adventures. The film, based on the popular children's novels of C.S. Lewis, is due for release at Christmas 2005. It will be directed by Andrew Anderson, who directed Shrek.

The following have extended their booking periods:

  • The Woman in Black (Fortune), now booking to 8th January, 2005.
  • Stomp (Vaudeville) extends to 26th September
