Brighton Rock Casting Announced
The Almeida has announced the cast for their musical version of Graham Greene's Brighton Rock (Music by John Barry, Lyrics by Don Black and Book by Giles Havergal), which opens on 5th October and runs to 13th November (previews from 20th September).

Pinkie Brown, the anti-hero, will be played by Michael Jibson, who last appeared in the West End in Our House. Sophia Ragavelas plays Rosie, Harriet Thorpe (A Prayer for Owen Meanie and All My Sons at the National) Ida, and Nick Lumley, Fred.

Donmar Casts Hecuba
The Donmar Warehouse has announced further casting for its production of Euripides' Hecuba. Joining Clare Higgins will be Tim Piggot-Smith as Agamemnon and Alfred Burke as Talthybius, along with Susan Engel , Kate Fleetwood, Finbar Lynch and Eddie Redmayne.

The production, a new version by Frank McGuinness, opens on 14th September (previews from 9th), booking until 17th November. It is directed by Jonathan Kent.

There will be a further production of Hecuba next year, by the RSC at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from the 18th February to 26th March, before transferring to the Albery Theatre as part of the RSC's London Season. Vanessa Redgrave plays the title role.

Final Cloaca Casting
Joining Neil Pearson and Stephen Tompkinson in Cloaca by Maria Goos, Kevin Spaceys' first production at the Old Vic (16th September to 11th December,) will be Adrian Lukis, Hugh Bonneville and Ingeborga Dapkunaite.

Fiennes will be Voldemort
Ralph Fiennes will play the evil Voldemort in the next Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Also new to the cast will be Miranda Richardson.

Casting for Festen West End Transfer
With just four changes (Luke Mably for Johnny Lee Mille, and Rory Kinnear for Tom Hardy as the brothers, and Stephen Moore as the father and Andrew Frame as Kim), the original Almeida cast of Festen will transfer to the Lyric Theatre on 23rd September (previews from 15th). The rest of the cast are Jane Asher (as Else), Sam Beazley (Grandfather), Sam Cox (Poul), Andrew Maud (Lars), Ruth Millar (Pia), Lisa Palfrey (Mette), Patrick Robinson (Gbatokai), Claire Rushbrook (Helene) and Michael Thomas (Helmut).

WNO Sell Out
Welsh National Opera's first performance at the new Wales Millennium Centre, La Traviata, is sold out - and it isn't until 18th February, 2005. Its new pricing structure sees the top seat price cut by 35% and 250 seats are sold at £5.

Extending and Closing
The following have extended their runs:

  • Round The Horne...Revisted (The Venue) by two months to 27th November
  • Fully Committed (Chocolate Factory), which was due to close on 29th August, will now run until 17th October. A West End transfer is a possibility.

The following have issued closing notices:

  • Snoopy the Musical (New Players) will close on 15th August, after a run of just one month
  • Little by Little (Arts Theatre), which was to have had only five performances, has cancelled the last two: tonight (8th August) and Sunday 22nd
  • Dirty Blonde (Duke of York's) will close one week early on 28th August
