The King and I logo

New King and I Tour
Kevin Gray will reprise his Broadway role as the King alongside esteemed English actress Elizabeth Renihan as Mrs Anna in a brand new production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The King & I, which will open at the Liverpool Empire on 22nd January ahead of a year-long national tour.

The King and I is directed by Stephen Rayne with choreography by Nikki Woolaston, musical supervision by John Rigby and sound design by Colin Pink.

After Liverpool the productions goes to Manchester (Palace) Eastbourne (Congress), Llandudno (North Wales Theatre), Northampton (Derngate), York (Grand Opera House), Oxford (New), Canterbury (Marlowe), Bradford (Alhambra), Nottingham (Royal Concert Hall), Edinburgh (Playhouse), Blackpool (Opera House), Birmingham (Alexandra), Bournmouth (Pavilion), Bristol (Hippodrome), Wimbledon (New Wimbledon), Leicester (De Montfort Hall), Sheffield (Lyceum) and Sunderland (Empire), where it closes on 15th October.

Donmar Casts Days
The Donmar Warehouse has released details of the casting of Days of Wine and Roses (17th February - 2nd April). Directed by Peter Gill and designed by Alison Chitty, the production will co-star Anne-Marie Duff and Peter McDonald. This is a new version of JP Miller's play by Owen McCafferty.

King's Head Kern Revival
The King's Head is reviving the twenty year old Kern Goes to Hollywood, subtitled A Salute to the Songs of Jerome Kern, it opened on 5th January and continues until 20th February. Written by Dick Vosburgh, it is devised and directed by David Kernan and stars Angela Richards, Glyn Kerslake, Shari Copeland and Jamie Golding.

Aaron Lazar
ENO On the Town
The casting has been announced for English National Opera's production of On the Town. It stars American actor Aaron Lazar, Adam Garcia and Caorline O'Connor, with Willard W. White, Timothy Howar, Helen Anker, Lucy Schaufer, Sylvia Syms, Janine Duvitski, Philip Bal and Greg Winter

The production runs from 5th March to 19th April at the Coliseum.

Ewan McGregor
Guys and Dolls Venue Announced
The venue for the Donmar Warehouse's Guys and Dolls, starring Ewan McGregor, will be the Piccadilly. No other casting has yet been announced, but the show will be directed by Michael Grandage and it will open on 1st June (previews from 19th May).

Get into London Theatre logo
GILT 2005 Launches
Get into London Theatre 2005 launched on 5th January with tickets for many shows being available at prices as low as £10 in the smaller theatres and £15, £20, and £30 in the larger West End venues. Over eight productions and over forty venues are taking part in the scheme, as well as a number of restaurants and hotels. Tickets must be booked by 8pm on 18th February and are available for performances until 18th March.

Man and Boy in the West End
The Yvonne Arnaud (Guildford) production of Rattigan's Man and Boy, starring David Suchet with David Yelland, Ben Silverston, Colin Stinton, Helen Grace, Jennifer Lee Jellicorse and Will Huggins, will play at the Duchess from 7th February (previews from 1st), for a ten week season. The play is directed by Maria Aiken.

Tomfoolery Revival at Jermyn Street
Dillie Keane and Kit and the Widow (Kit Hesketh-Harvey and Richard Sisson) are to star alongside newcomer Matthew Wolfenden in a revival of Tomfoolery, based on the songs of American satirist Tom Lehrer, at the Jermyn Street Theatre from 24th January. It will then tour to a further five venues until 5th March.

Hall's Dresser in the West End
Sir Peter Hall's production of Ronald Harwood's The Dresser comes to the Duke of York's on 28th February (previews from 22nd), initially booking until 14th May. Starring Nicholas Lyndhurst and Julian Glover, the play is produced by the Theatre Royal, Bath.

Extensions and Closures
The following have extended their booking periods:

  • Saturday Night Fever (Apollo Victoria) to 22nd October
  • Stomp (Vaudeville) to 2nd October
  • Cirque du Soleil's Dralion (Royal Albert Hall) to 6th February
  • Journey's End (Duke of York's) to 19th Februray (positively the last extension!)

Closing notices have been posted for:

  • Bat Boy the Musical (Shaftesbury) on 15th January
  • Venturport's Romeo and Juliet (Playhouse) closes tonight (9th January)
