Humble Boy to Tour
Charlotte Jones' Humble Boy, which opened to great success at the National Theatre in August 2001 before transferring to the Gielgud last year, is to tour. With a completely new cast, including former child star Hayley Mills, Cherie Blair's father Tony Booth and and ex-Likely Lads star Brigit Forsyth, the tour starts at the Yvonne Arnaud, Guildford, on 1st October.

Jumpers on Tour
The RNT production of Stoppard's Jumpers has announced its touring schedule:

  • 16-20 September, Milton Keynes Theatre
  • 23-27 September, Plymouth Theatre Royal
  • 30 September-4 October, Sheffield Lyceum Theatre

Frayn's Democracy Opens Soon at RNT
Michael Frayne's latest play, Democracy, about the early years of the Chancellorship of Willy Brant in West Germany, opens at the National Theatre on 9th September (previews from 30th August). Roger Allam and Conleth Hill star.

And Vincent Is to Tour
Another RNT hit, Richard Eyre's production of Vincent in Brixton, is to tour. It will open on 1st September at Milton Keynes and go on to Bromley, Brighton, Glasgow, Woking, Warwick, Edinburgh, Belfast, Stoke-on-Trent, Oxford and Richmond. The production is currently at the Playhouse, where it runs until 30th August.

And So Is Abigail
A new cast is to tour the revival of Mike Leigh's Abigail's Party from 25th August. It will star Lizzy McInnerney as Beverley, with Huw Higginson, Liz Crowther, Elizabeth Hopley and Simon Wilson. It oepns at Birmingham Rep and then goes on to Richmond, Stoke-on-Trent, Poole, Brighton, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Manchester, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Guildford and Westcliff-on-Sea.

West End Premiere for 1978 Pinter
Harold Pinter's Betrayal, first performed in 1978 at the National, is to have its West End premiere at the Duchess on 8th October (previews from 1st). Directed by Sir Peter Hall (who also directed the original production), it comes from playing in rep at the Theatre Royal, Bath.

GBS Times 2
Two of George Bernard Shaw's plays are to have a revival shortly. Dominic Dromgoole is to direct John Bull's Other Island at the Tricycle, Kilburn, from 15th September (previews from 11th) to 25th October, whilst a touring version of Arms and the Man, starring Duncan Preston and Gwen Taylor opens at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, on 17th September before moving on to Brighton, Richmond, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Sheffield, Plymouth and Cardiff.

Extending
The following have extended their West End runs:

  • Les Miserables by two and a half months to 28th February, 2004
  • Fame by eight months to 25th September, 2004
  • High Society (Open Air Theatre, Regent's Park) by one week to 13th September
