According to a report in the Daily Mail, Ralph Finnnes and Adrian Noble are in discussions about a possible production of Hamlet which will, of course, star Fiennes. Shakespeare's Birthday at the Globe
Shakespeare’s Globe will be opening its doors and welcoming the whole of London to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday on Friday 23 April.

This special birthday party, organised in collaboration with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Innovision Media, will offer members of the public free access to the Globe Theatre. Street artists and performers will entertain visitors in and around the Globe, celebrating the origins of theatre in 16th century England when acting companies performed on the streets and in the inns of London.

For the first time, members of the public will have the opportunity to step out onto the Globe stage and see the theatre from the point of view of an actor. There will even be a chance to deliver a line of Shakespeare on the stage after receiving some helpful advice from a Globe actor. Guided tours will be available throughout the day, offering insights into the story of the first Globe and the working theatre of today.

The site will open at 9am on 23rd April, with special celebrations beginning at 11am when Ken Livingston, Mayor of London, will officially launch the party.

Paxman to Chair Spearshaker Talk
Broadcaster and writer Jeremy Paxman will chair the 2004 Spearshaker Talk panel invited to discuss the work of Samaritans in Britain today, with particular reference to the suicides of Romeo and Juliet. This annual event is organised by the theatre to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday in 1564, and provides an important link between the Globe season and issues affecting society today.

Other speakers are psychiatrist and broadcaster Dr.Raj Persaud, historian Alexander Murray, Outside Edge Theatre director Phil Cox, Globe Theatre director Tim Carroll and Simon Armson, chief executive, Samaritans. The Spearshaker Talk is the first of a series of joint events, including a fundraising evening on 15 September, designed to raise awareness of Samaritans' work in this their 50th anniversary year. Globe artistic director Mark Rylance said "Shakespeare is about the human condition and so is Samaritans. The emotional themes dramatised in our Season of Star-Crossed Lovers have strong resonance in the issues dealt with by Samaritans every day."

To stimulate discussion amongst the panel and audience, key scenes from Romeo and Juliet between Friar Lawrence and the title characters will be enacted by members of the cast. The Spearshaker Talk - already sold out - will be followed by the annual Spring Blessing of the theatre and an Italian banquet on stage.
