Jane Eyre Returns
to London
Polly Teale's version of Jane
Eyre, produced by Shared Experience, is to play at the Trafealgar
Studios from 12th May (previews from 9th). In the cast will be the two
leads from the original 1997 performance at the Young Vic, Monica Dolan
and James Clyde.
Since the 1997 premiere, the company has presented the production on
tour in the UK and in Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Ireland
and the United States. Prior to the West End opening, the production
will play at the Oxford Playhouse (114th - 18th March), the Mansfield
Palace Theatre (28th March - 1st April) and the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre
(4th - 8th April).
Wickedly Big Advance
Already more than £1.7m has been taken in advanced sales for the
musical Wicked which is due to open at the Apollo Victoria in
September. In the first hour alone £100,000 worth of tickets were
sold.
The show, which comes from a successful run on Broadway and opens on
27th September (previews from 7th), is a prequel to The Wizard of
Oz, telling the stories of the witches. It is currently booking
until 27th February, 2007. No casting has yet been announced.
Dancing
Transfers
The West End production of the Motown musical Dancing in the Streets
(a version of which which sets off on a national
tour this month) is to transfer from the Cambridge Thetare to the
Aldwych. The last performance at its current venue will be on 22nd April
and it will repoen at the Aldwych in 27th. It is currently booking to
22nd July.
It will celebrate its first birthday on 8th July. It was due to open
on 7th July last year but that was cancelled because of the London bombings.
Shaw Is Booker Judge
Actress Fiona Shaw is to be one of the judges for this year's Man Booker
Prize for Fiction. She joins poet and novelist Simon Armitage, award-winning
novelist Candia McWilliam and critic Anthony Quinn with writer and academic
Hermione Lee as chair of the panel.
Lies
Returns
The one man show based on the life and death of Robert Maxwell, Lies
Have Been Told, returns to the Trafalgar Studios from 20th June
to 15th July. Rob Beacham's play will again be performed by Philip York.
After opening at the New End Theatre in Hampstead last October, it transferred
to the Trafallgar Studios from 10th to 28th January.
Satirical Look at Classical
Music
The Pocket Orchestra The Unlikely Lives of the Great Composers,
a satirical look at the history of classical music and the sometimes
bizarre lives of ther great composers written by Graeme Garden and Callum
McLeod, will open at the Trafalgar Studios on 26th April (preview on
25th) and will run until 20th May. It will star Sylvester McCoy.
