New Becket Revival
John Caird is to direct a new production of Anouilh's Becket at the
Theatre Royal Haymarket. The new version has been adapted by Frederic
Raphael and will star Dougray Scott as Becket and Jasper Britton as
Henry. The production opens on 27th October (previews from 20th).
The last West End production (in 1991, starring Robert Lindsay and
Derek Jacobi) was also at the Haymarket.
Mastrantonio at the
Donmar
Hollywood star Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is to make her London debut
in Michael Grandage's production of Grand Hotel at the Donmar
Warehouse. Written by Luther Davi with music and lyrics by Robert Wright
and George Forrest, the production opens on 29th November (previews
from 19th).
Although best known for her film work, Mastrantonio has done a considerable
amount of work on Broadway, including a Tony-nominated performance in
Man of La Mancha.

however, is not in the cast list (see last week's

year, and Felix Dexter, Lucy Porter, Lizzie Roper, Katherine Jakeways,

recently: she starred in Edge as Sylvia Plath.
Also in the cast are Rupert Wickham and Leigh Lawson. The production
begins previews on 20th July and runs until 29th August.

Peter Hall's second rep season at the Theatre Royal, Bath, ends with
a new production of Coward's Blithe Spirit. Directed by Thea
Sharrock, the production features Penelope Keith, Joanna Riding, Aiden

and runs until 4th September.
After Bath, the production goes to Malvern, Milton Keynes, Edinburgh,
Cheltenham and Woking.

Seconds, in which she plays a NATO officer.
Shooting has just begun in Romania.

the end of its current booking period, 4th September. It will have run
